Question: What is Your Talent in Cyber?
Today, I had an interview for a position, that I would love to have. During the interview the team lead looked at me dead in the eyes over zoom and asked me “What is your talent in cyber?”. To be frank I have not once thought of a question like this being asked. It is exactly that reason, I love the question.
I had to be quick on my feet, hit a brain blast like my boy Jimmy Neutron and get all brain wrinkles wrinkling and synapses firing. I answered back “my ability to speak”.
The team lead looked back at me for a second, almost hesitating and asked “okay why”.
Some of you read this and may think that my answer was actually retarded, but let me explain.
In cyber/IT and tech in general we have these things called engineers. Extremely intelligent individuals, many of them eating cheetos and developing their skills in the dark, talented beyond a doubt. They do have one weakness though. That weakness, the ability to speak and convey a message to an audience outside of their geeky passion.
Now with some context I think you understand why I felt my answer was the best. I have been working on my speaking abilities for years now so I can excel professionally and personally.
I would like to add to this here though. The ability to break down complex topics and make them easy to understand despite a person being young or even slow means one has a mastery over a subject.
I would like to believe I answered this question well. I do not have any earthly idea if it was an answer that was desired but I do not believe there was truly a wrong answer. I thought the conversation was interesting and just wanted to share. It does not fit in the motivation, win or loss categories but… It is my blog so you can get over that.
As always. Stay curious my friends.
